Lloyd Parks & We The People — The Startime Band

In an industry where people, tastes, time and relationships change with amazing rapidity, it is something very special when a partnership is able to remain stable, no matter what. That is the case with MKB, STARTIME and Lloyd Parks and We The People, the band that has backed most of the artistes on STARTIME throughout the show’s 18 active years and over 140 shows.

It all started from the very first show in 1988 at the Oceana Hotel’s Old Spanish Town Bar, when they backed Gregory Isaacs and except for some ten occasions when the artistes sang on tracks, and Fab 5 and Chalice filled in when the band went on several tours overseas, it’s been Lloyd Parks and We the People all the way.

Like with the artistes, Startime has always provided the platform for the band to display its considerable talent and there is hardly a vintage show in Jamaica or overseas where they are not the band of choice.

Led by bassist/singer Lloyd Parks, they have won numerous “Lifetime Achievement” and “Best Backing Band” awards; and over the years have included some of our best musicians including Dean Frazer, Winston ‘Bo Pee” Bowen, Nambo Robinson, Tony Green, Keith Sterling, Franklyn “Bubbler” Waul, Junior “Chico” Chin, Robbie Lyn, Devon Richardson, and Steve “Lenky” Marsden.

According to Parks, ”the association with MKB and Startime has developed into a partnership that has been most rewarding for both me and my band over the years.”
